Tess Clearman was raised in the Northwest. She studied photography at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Her favorite photo techniques utilize little known processes such as Cyanotype and Vandyke brown. She also enjoys Polaroid transfer, pinhole, and all forms of black and white. Tess prefers the older chemical processes that are rapidly being replaced by digital ones.

As a child Tess spent much time tagging after her step-father while he conducted interviews for the small town newspaper he edited. Her love for writing and her sharp photographic eye are credited to these early lessons at the knee of a newspaperman, and have followed her into adulthood.

Her love of art through observation of creativity in nature and in humanity inspire Tess to move through life with the fearless grace of the visible and invisible artists surrounding her. She has been a policewoman, a beekeeper, author of a soon-to-be-published book, and a lover of Tim Holmes' art.
